Daily note
Preview the font without shipping the font library
A local DOM Studio font picker adds searchable previews and keeps font requests inside the mounted control.
DOM Studio gained a local Google Fonts picker with searchable, individually styled options. It wraps the existing DomCombobox, reusing its selection and keyboard machinery. The bundled catalog contains family names and categories; font files are fetched separately for previews.
The loader waits until the component mounts, then requests the selected family and, after interaction, the current result set. Results are capped, typing is debounced, and Google Fonts receives a text subset containing the preview characters. A replacement stylesheet loads before the previous one is removed. Unmounting removes the component’s stylesheet nodes; the consuming application still owns any lasting use of the chosen font.
That keeps a font selector from turning into a font-library download. Four focused tests passed for search ranking, filtering, request construction and font normalization; type generation and the build also passed. I still have no completed browser verification for keyboard selection, network isolation, cleanup or mobile layout in the day’s record. This remained a local implementation with browser QA unfinished, rather than a verified package release.
